Alpha: Outreach to youth and grassroots families

One core value that SEEDS holds is walking with NGOs and organizations relationally rather than just being results-driven. Though the end results are important, we believe that sustained fruit is a result of long-term partnership through two-way communication and mutual learning. One such organisation that we've worked with over the years is Alpha Hong Kong (香港啟發). Though we have collaborated with them for almost a decade, recent projects that we've supported were their work with the youth in Hong Kong. Due to many young people feeling lost and a significant increase in youth suicides among individuals aged 15-24 in Hong Kong over the past decade, Alpha has focused on projects that build up their spiritual lives, providing them with a sense of purpose, and community. In 2021, Seeds Foundation supported the development of the Alpha Cantonese Teen Series (ACTS) - a video series that explores timeless questions about life and faith for a new generation in the local language of the city's youth. Witnessing the success of this project, we also supported another project in 2023 aimed at extending the impact of ACTS.

Consequently, Alpha launched a series of events for the youth and youth pastors, including the Youth Leadership Camp, Youth Pastor Cohort, Youth Pastor gatherings, and trainings. These events strengthened and equipped both youth and youth pastors. Continuing to support Alpha's work in reaching the Hong Kong community, in 2023 we also supported their work with grassroots families. This support enabled them to develop customized resources for evangelising to these families (best practice guidelines, discussion guides, and detailed lesson plans for each Alpha session) and to form strategic collaborations with various NGOs and local churches to help reach these families. Ultimately, they were able to reach 300 underprivileged beneficiaries and train over 200 church leaders to minister to grassroots families.
